While Florida no longer offers a tax incentive program for production business, that hasn’t stopped notorious films or blockbusters with big-name stars attached from filming in Miami and surrounding parts of South Florida.
Moonlight — check out it’s Miami filming locations here — helped move the spotlight back toward the area in February after winning the Oscar for Best Picture. And while Baywatch, which was filmed all across South Florida, didn’t come close to offering the same critical acclaim, there aren’t many bigger names in Hollywood today than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
Matthew McConaughey becomes the latest star to take his talents to South Beach, according to Miami Herald affiliate Miami.com, with “The Beach Bum” filming there in the coming weeks.
The film will be directed by Harmony Korine, who led the 2012 quirky hit Spring Breakers. Preproduction begins in September and runs through mid-December, with McConaughey playing a character named Moondog, “a rebellious stoner who lives life by his own rules.”
