Aventura Mall’s latest public artwork is designed to make you feel like a kid again. Behold the Aventura Slide Tower, a nearly 100-foot tall slide that’s free for all ages and takes 15 seconds to traverse at speeds of up to 15 miles per hour.
The slide is a permanent installation from Belgian artist and former scientist Carsten Höller, who has exhibited works at the Tate Modern. The blog It’s Nice That reports that the Aventura Slide Tower was designed by Höller to “promote joy” and a feeling “somewhere between delight and madness.” To get to the slide, visitors climb up a spiral staircase and then can choose between one of two titanium steel tubes.
The mall celebrated the slide’s arrival yesterday with a party yesterday that included indie actress Chloë Sevigny challenging the artist (her long-time friend) to a slide race.
