The Wave streetcar system, a project at more than 15 years in the making, just cleared a big hurdle. The SunSentinel reports that Fort Lauderdale city commissioners voted 3-2 in favor of The Wave, approving a new agreement with the county and Downtown Development Authority and reaffirming a commitment to help pay for the project.
It sounds like a contentious vote, as hundreds of people packed Fort Lauderdale’s City Hall, according to ABC 10, with supporters wearing aqua T-shirts and opponents wearing yellow.
The project isn’t necessarily a done deal. If bids exceed $142.5 million, the state, county or city can reject them, the SunSentinel reports in their story about the The Wave’s murky future.
