Representing an 80-mile stretch of the Florida Keys—from Islamorada to Key West—will be the Florida Keys Sculpture Trail, featuring eight works from the Art Students League of New York's Model to Monument Program.
The idea began when two Key West philanthropists, John Padget and Jacob Dekker, saw the sculptures in New York City in 2016. It was a collaborative effort between the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners, the County’s Art in Public Places Committee and Elizabeth Young, Executive Director of the Florida Keys Council of the Arts.
Seven of the pieces were installed in New York City’s Riverside Park South last summer and were on display up until a few weeks ago. The four cities represented are Big Pine Key, Marathon, Islamorada and Key West.
The trail will be completed this summer and two sculptures have already been installed. The map is ordered from north to south.
