The 10 best public high schools in Miami-Dade county have been unveiled, according to U.S. News and World Report’s latest rankings, which took a look at over 22,000 public schools across the United States.

The top school in Miami-Dade County was Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH), located in the Design District. The magnet school ranked 22nd nationally and second in Florida.

The top three schools in the national ranking are all located in Arizona.

They eliminated many smaller schools from consideration and their methodology was based on a few principles: “that a great high school must serve all of its students well, not just those who are college bound, and that it must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes to show it is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators.”

Note: While their ranking technically dealt with only public schools, most on the list are of the charter and magnet variety.

Earning top honors in Miami-Dade was DASH, a magnet school with around 500 students and a 17-to-1 ratio of teachers to students. It was founded in 1990 and ranks 22nd nationally and second in the state.

International Studies Charter High School

Ranked third in the state of Florida and second in Miami-Dade, ISCHS is located on Calle Ocho and enrolls around 400 students from all over the world. It’s one of the highest ranked charter schools in the nation.

Ranked fourth in the state, ISPA ranks 31st in the nation and is located in Coral Gables.
