The Miami Hotels Heatmap: Where To Stay In Miami Right Now

View as Map

In honor of our first-ever Hotels Week, we've rounded up the newest and most interesting hotels to open up in our tourist-trafficked sunny metropolis over approximately the last year. From a bunch of new South Beach spots, to a very high end, and very large luxury resort in Bal Harbour, to a seriously hip hostel (yes, a hostel), and the first Portuguese-owned hotel in the U.S. these places run the gamut. Did we miss a great new spot? Let us know, either by email or in the comments section below. And now, on to the Curbed Miami Hotels Heatmap. Happy hotel-ing!

1. Gale South Beach

1690 Collins Ave
Miami Beach, FL 33139

The latest Menin Hotels establishment, the Gale South Beach is the restoration of two historic art deco hotels, connected together and then topped by a large rooftop addition. This party hotel embraces its urbanity by packing a lot of fun into a narrow piece of real estate. Rooms come with doorbells, books scattered about, and citrus trees on the balconies.

3. The James Royal Palm

The Miami outpost of the James Hotel brand includes two very popular new restaurants, a large, gracious lobby, a wicked-cool modernist grand staircase, and a front lawn/driveway that doubles (or at least they act like it doubles) as an event venue. Do check out the topiary furniture. It's fun. Meanwhile the hotel has an interesting art collection, and the rooms contain custom-made and eclectic built-in furniture.

4. Sense Beach House

400 Ocean Dr
Miami Beach, FL 33139

A tiny hotel squeezed into a quiet stretch of Ocean Drive, the Sense nontheless has comfortably sized rooms (the corner rooms are quite large), individual balconies, a good restaurant, a rooftop pool, and a large loggia with ping pong and other 'deck games.'

5. Dream South Beach Hotel

The decor of the Dream is either supposed to evoke a dreamy state of consciousness, or maybe a hallucinogenic, chemically induced world. Either way, it's an otherworldly party hotel where perfect strangers aren't afraid yell at you to join them in the pool.

6. The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort

The St. Regis, with its two condo towers and one hotel tower, is all about money. In fact, the sheer enormity of sales happening at the Reg have singlehandedly pushed Bal Harbour's average property values up by a whopping 31.4%. Then there's the army of servers, staff, and stewards who will do absolutely everything, from opening a door to chewing your food, for you.

7. The Freehand Miami

Okay the Freehand Miami is technically a hostel, and the Hotel Heatmap is about hotels, but this place raises the bar for hostels by like a million degrees. Built by the guy that did the Ace Hotels, the Freehand was also designed by Roman & Williams, and has a bar by the hip bar company 'Bar Lab.'

8. B2 Hotel Downtown Miami

The b2 hotel, which makes a flashy statement on Biscayne Boulevard with its very lit up facade, continues the growth of the hotel industry in Downtown Miami. It's a 'full service hotel at a bargain price' (like that model hasn't been done to death) with a spa, catering to vacationers and business travelers.

9. Pestana South Beach Hotel

1817 James Ave
Miami Beach, FL 33139

Apparently the Pestana South Beach Hotel is the first Portuguese-owned hotel to open in the United States. The Pestana's 97 rooms and suites fill up four restored art deco buildings clustered around a central pool deck.
